Android is leader: Is free the word

Its official now. IDCs latest forecast says Android to lead the market for mobile operating system in 2012.

The report does brings back he question again – Is it that we love things in Internet and telecom sector which are free or this is how this market is destined to grow?

Well, seems yes. Free will be the word.

“WiFi using the so-called garbage spectrum is the most sought after thing in the telecom market. No product be it a laptop, a computer, a smartphone is without a WiFi point. A whole market segment has benefited from the WiFi, which was made available for free. Similarly, Android is making up 56% of world smartphone shipments as that mobile sector has grown by 44.7% to 144.4m, even while the overall world market for mobile phones shrank by 2% year-on-year to 419m. (new data from research company Gartner). I need not mention Google, Facebook, twitter, Orkut and Wikipedia.” [from a post on on 17 May I wrote ] Not only this free apps are fairing well.

On spectrum front US takes a step for a open and shared spectrum, which is again set to help the market grow.
