Give back the Spectrum – DoT may say.

This is what the Telecom Ministry might be telling to the old telecom players who had been allocated spectrum. The move will be able to give a chance to other operators by re-auctioning spectrum.

This proposal is part of an amicable solution which the ministry is offering to the industry and is packaged around spectrum price policy, refarming and minimum price of airwaves that is to be paid in the auction due before August 31 reports MoneyControl.

TRAI’s proposal of refarming spectrum, proposes spectrum allocated in 900 Mhz band (for 2G) to old operators be taken back on  expiry of licences. These companies will later get a chance to  repurchase these in auctions, where other players will also be participating.

Under the spectrum pricing policy DoT has proposed to charge for all airwaves currently held by telecom operators at  new rates, which will be determined through spectrum auction due before August 31, 2012.
