Telecom Subscription Data as on 31st May 2012

As per a press release by the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology yesterday, th highlights of Telecom Subscription data as on 31st May 2012 shows marginal growth in urban areas.

1. The number of telephone subscribers has increased to 960.90 Million at the end of May, 2012 from
952.91 Million at the end of April 2012. Registering a growth rate of 0.84%.

2. The share of Urban subscribers has declined to 64.65% from 64.95%.

3. The share of Rural Subscribers has increased to 35.35% in the month of May 2012.

4. The overall Tele-density in India reaches to 79.28 at the end of May, 2012 from 78.71 of the previous month.

5. Mobile Number Portability requests increased from 45.89 million subscribers at the end of April 2012 to
50.16 million at the end of May 2012. In May 2012 4.27 million requests were made.

6. Active wireless subscribers on the date of Peak VLR in May 2012 are 689.33 Million, 74.17% of the total subscribers.

7. Broadband subscription reached 14.31 Million in May 2012 from 13.95 Million in April 2012.
