Community Radio might play it loud again

In an move which will spark life into the limited community radio network in India, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT) may soon notify on a roll back on community radio spectrum license fees. The formal announcement for a roll back or waiver, by MoCIT is yet to be made. In all changes it should be a waiver.

The Community Radio Association (CRA), met the MoCIT Minister Mr. Kapil Sibal recently and also interacted with the Ministry of Information and Broadcast (MoIB) and shared this concern.  The CRA demanded a zero spectrum fee/royalty.

Recently, MoCIT had increased the license fees from Rs 19,700 to Rs 91,000, almost taking the last breath out of Community Radio. Broadcast of News and Current Affairs program is already banned in community radio, under the content regulation code of MoIB.
