Spectrum auctions soon, more hulchul expected

There are clear indications that spectrum, available after cancellation of 122 licences following a Court Order in February this year, might be going up for auctions in September this year. With this speculations have already started, and India is expecting some good hulchul in its telcom sector.

The auction process may stretch to October in case of aggressive bidding by companies, as happened in the case of last auction of airwaves which was held in 2010 for 3G and wireless broadband access (BWA) services.

The Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) is believed to have suggested setting a 20% lower base or bid start price, but the industry is demanding a 80% cut as they feel TRAI recommended rates would lead to upto 100% hike in mobile telephone charges.

Consumers are happy with 2G services and want reduced call rates. The move will sure to effect the growing telecom market.
